Singular: Mantra
Plural: Mantras
Group: Cloud of Mantras
Mantras’ basic structure is that of the manta ray. Their specific looks are determined by their rank, including their size, but generally speaking they are a very flat creatures with large fins on either sides of them. All ranks may be male or female. They have a very small face, two eyes sitting atop a just barely elongated, wide snout. Their mouth opens on the underside of them. Their tails vary depending upon rank. The number of tails they have varies per Mantra. They use their fins to fly throughout the air, for they are not restricted to the ocean floors. Strictly herbivores, they have no teeth, and only eat vegetation.
Peace-seeking creatures, Mantras are very philosophical and thought-driven. They enjoy having long discussions, very deep conversations about the reasons for the universe and why life exists. Even though they enjoy discussing these topics, they don’t seem to have a set belief or religion, and are thus very open and accepting shinies. They are very intelligent, though they are known to be not quite in touch with reality. They are rarely aggressive, as a whole, though will get defensive if threatened.
Mating Info
When a Mantra feels in the mood, they will call to others of their species by a low hum. Most will not be able to hear it, but other Mantras will, and they’ll congregate to an area together. They’ll have a discussion about a topic of the original Mantra’s choosing. During this conversation the Mantra will make their decision and choose their mate.
Bonding Info
Mantras are born small and grow rapidly into their adult size. It only takes about 3 weeks for them to be almost to full size, and ready to find a bond of their own. Mantras do prefer finding a humanoid rather than be on their own in the wild. The young- or even adults finally ready for bonding- will congregate to an area. They will engage in discussions, that will vary depending upon the individual or the cloud. Food is appreciated but not a factor in their decisions.
Ranks
Extraterrestrial
Extraterrestrials can be any size within the entire species, as small as 1” to as large as 23’. They can be any color, for their bodies seem to be made up of light itself, whether bright and hard to look at or dark and consuming. Small meteorites hover around their bodies, and will orbit around them as they move. Their tails are a trail of stars behind them.
3PSP
Deep Sea
These Mantras look alien, to say the least. Their size ranges from 1’-9’. Dark and mysterious, blacks, dark blues and purples cover them. They have fins along their spines, and their tails are tendrils like a jellyfish’s. These fins and tails will glow, either white, light blue or light green when the Deep Seas are feeling intense emotions. They can sometimes cause them to glow at will, but not for very long.
2PSP
Atmosphere
Opposite to their Deep Sea brethren, Atmospheres come in light shades, including white, cream, and sky blues. Puffy clouds gather around their backs and undersides, and trail along behind them like tails. When upset or angry, these clouds darken and can even rumble with thunder. When sad, they can sometimes release rain. Atmospheres are giants, from 15’-23’.
2PSP.
Desert
Warm colors claim the skin of these Mantras, with yellow being most common. They have lizard tails, long and whip like, with rough skin. Sand and rubble cover their backs which might annoy their bonds if they go into the house. Sometimes they’ll have some weeds sprouting on their as well. They range from 1’-6’.
1PSP
Tundra
Tundras are very hard to tell apart. They come in whites, light grays and yellows. Their tails are icicles, sticking straight out behind them. They never melt, no matter what the weather is. Snow collects on their backs, falling off sometimes as they move. They are rather large, ranging from 10’ to 15’.
1PSP
Woodland
The smallest Mantra, the Woodlands range from 1” to 6”. Their some of the most colorful, from brown to red and orange, sometimes gray. They are known to have woodgrain and foliage patterns. Their backs are covered in rough, abrasive skin similar to bark. Their tails are vines that they can use to grab onto/hold onto things.
1PSP
Swamp
Ranging from 5”-1’, Swamps can be difficult to find since they blend in so well. The vast majority are green, while brown and gray are slightly less seen. Moss covers their backs. These Mantras are the only ones not to have any tails.
1PSP
Marine
Easily the most common, Marines are very much like their Terran counterparts. Their skin comes in cool colors, blues being more common than green or purple. They are between 5’-9’, from fin to fin. The only rank to have only one tail, they vary between dolphin tails and shark tails. They are very fast fliers/swimmers due to this.
