The Worst Loneliness

Some part of Zenith- the part so full of enthusiasm it ran roughshod over little things like ‘common sense’- fully expected his apologies to be rejected. They had every reason to, after all, and more than that they had every right. These tired old souls had experienced things he could only hope and pray he never would. In the face of such things mere words had a frustrating habit of falling short.
Except this time they didn’t. Not entirely, at least. The judge took his leave, perhaps to seek his answers elsewhere, and in his wake the poor maimed scout finally found the peace she had long sought. Zee couldn’t help but wave a farewell to both of them. The queen- the unintentional heart of this madness- found her equal in Haelys. That left the soldier, the executioner, the one kal’daka that had resonated with him the most for reasons he didn’t care to examine too closely.
The soldier that strode straight up to him, matched his bluntness blow for blow, and offered him the most precious thing in the world: a second chance.
For a moment Zee didn’t trust his vocoder. It had led him astray a thousand times since arriving on Planet. Pit, it had about sent this situation straight to the Pit in a minecart! Actions, though- those were harder to misinterpret. And so Zee knelt, field abloom with surprise and wonder and a smidge of chagrin, and gave his newfound friend a grin that threatened to take in his audio.
A bond snapped into place between them, as abrupt and unapologetic as the kal’daka herself, and with it came her name: Lasinian. Perhaps it was not her birth name, but it fit right down to her bones.
Perhaps now the sword could rest easy in its sheath rather than being banished there.
“Well then. Looks like I’ve got some work to do, huh? I’ll be glad to have someone keeping me on the straight and narrow along the way.”
((Somewhere That’s Green, ‘abloom’. Thank you so, so much for this wonderful wuff, Art! She’s going to be such a wonderful influence on Zee, whether he wants to admit it so much. <3))
