Singular: Visp
Plural: Visps
Group: A Quest of Visps
General Info: Visps are mid-sized serpents when full-grown, ranging anywhere from one to four feet tip-to-tail. At a glance, they're easy to mistake for earth snakes, having no wings, antenna, limbs, appendages, antlers, or anything else manifesting their forms into an unusual sight. They're noodley, cold-blooded, legless reptilian-like creatures, with pointed heads, blunt-tipped or pointy-nosed... noses, and hinged jaws, and come in an unlimited variety of patterns and colours. Discerning Visp enthusiasts even enjoy 'collecting' different morphs appearances. They eat rarely, easily lasting a whole year on a single meal. Water is not trouble for them either, whether it be a lack or an abundance, as they can swim and breathe underwater with ease, and need only a few drops every few days to remain slaked.
A closer inspection reveals Visps are more intelligent and far more perceptive than any Terran critter, however. Visps have three pairs eyes of eyes, each set performing a unique sight. The primary eyes, located in the middle of the row of eyes, see things in normal light and colour. The pair below see auras of living things around them, both in the present as well as traces left behind in the past. The third pair, located above the others, are extremely photo-sensitive and can see in the darkest voids so long as a single speck of light exists in the world.
Those who bond Visps can confirm all of this, as Visps have a unique connection with their bonded that allows them to trade sights. If the bonded wills (or accepts the will of their Visp) they can see through any set of each other's eyes, regardless of what distance or dimension separates them.
Besides this Seeing ability, Visps are capable of mouth-speech, with the intelligence to match any other sentient species, including spanning from stupider than a stump to a chess grandmaster. Personality-wise though they are, with rare exception, incredibly docile... despite their many pointed fangs and unblinking eyes sometimes unnerving those that haven't encountered them before.
Mating Info: Visps do not have traditional binary genders. As far as anyone can tell, they all have the same physical sex, and as long as two Visps are interested in each other, one or both will become gravid and in just a couple weeks there will be little baby Visps in the world. How they determine who they are interested in is as varied as trying to figure out how anyone else gets a mate, and generally involves a lot of vague hoping you're both interested at the same time.
Bonding Info: Visps hatch from small, leathery eggs, using an egg-tooth on the end of their upturned noses to help tear their way out. This egg-tooth will fall away shortly from most babies. Once hatched, Visps desire warmth above all else, and can easily be swayed by overclocked laptops, burning torches, or simply a warm-blooded body. Their names have no patterns or requirements, and their ranks are obvious by their subtle differences in physiology.
Rank Info:
Spirit
The rarest Visp, Spirits have a unique look and unique talent alike. They are functionally blind, but able to see through the eyes of the dead alone. Not even the seeing of their bonded works, unless their bonded is themself a corpse, ghost, or other post-life entity. Spirits never exhibit any colour variations either; they are always exclusively an unmarked white.
3 PSP
Nightmare
Nightmares are uncommon but not that hard to find. They can be distinguished by the egg-tooth that has grown horn-like on their snoots without falling off, giving them a much more menacing look and reputation than they deserve.
2 PSP
Dream
As uncommon as Nightmares, Dreams are notable for their flaring hoods framing their heads and tops of the necks, the expressive addition often more intricately adorned than the rest of their body.
2 PSP
Eidolon
The Eidolon is not a common sight, but hard to miss when it appears. They are remarkable exclusively for their size, easily over two meters in length and for all observation, bear almost no limit to how large they can grow as they age.
2 psp
Fantasy
Fantasies are strange, commonly found types of Visp. They have no scales at all, save for the ventral scales they use to crawl along with. Although unusual, their skin is said to be velvety to the touch, but they require a little extra care that their soft bodies don't get hurt.
1 PSP
Reverie
While most Visps get part of their prettyshininess from their smooth, sleek scales, Reveries' scales are ridged, giving them a stiffer, spikier appearance since the keeled scales refuse to lay flat. It gives them a slightly rougher texture, but their personalities are just as kind.
1 PSP
Prophecy
It has two heads. Or, uh, they have? Two heads? However your Prophecy prefers to be referred to, each one has double the brains for the double the fun! It's thought to be polite to name each of them individually, but some care about it more than others, and might be just fine both being Bobraham.
1 PSP
Mirage
Common, Mirages are obvious by the glass-like semi-translucence of their scales. That's right -- in the right light, you can see right through them! They have a beautiful stained glass appearance as a result.
