Being a drow elf, Halrae is an elf with obsidian black skin that has blue-ish highlights when the light hits it just right. Her hair is white and hangs straight to mid back; she rarely puts it up into anything beyond a simple tail. Her eyes are ruby red as often happens in her kind. She stands 5'3" tall.
Her typical attire changes depending on the day and the weather and even her mood, but she dresses sensibly for her profession. Shirts and pants with boots are normal, as well as her chain shirt armor for protection. Gloves and a clock also aren't unusual if it's at all chilly (and she tends to get chilly quickly, being from the Underdark). No matter what, however, she always has her 'dark goggles' on her head or over her eyes as protection from the bright, blinding sunlight. A gift from her traveling companions, they are her most valuable possession.
History:
There are some things that just are known about Drow: their society is dangerous, harsh, and oftentimes bloody. She was born a commoner attached to a House, and because of that was trained to be a fighter in their ranks. Her life ran as one might expect for centuries until the day that everything went wrong.
To this moment Halrae doesn't remember exactly what happened. She was on patrol with several of her fellow warriors and two of the House' members, then the next she knows she's staggering into her room in the barracks, bloody and limping. The next day the reports came in:
Her unit: slaughtered.
The house weapon master: slaughtered.
The culprit: Halrae.
The weapon master managed to implicate her before he died of his injuries and the House to say the least was furious. She was quickly apprehended and accused, but for reasons she couldn't comprehend at the time the Matron didn't sentence her to death. Instead she was to be a slave for the rest of her life in a remote tunnel, doing manual labor and being 'morale' for the men there.
The wonderful mercy of the drow.
She remained there for a time but eventually with the aid of several other slaves escaped their shackles and eventually the Underdark. With little else to do and nowhere else to go they banded together despite being varied races. Eventually they had the respect of the region where they'd first breeched the surface – earning the nickname 'Chainbreakers' for their focus on tyrants and oppressors – and for a time Halrae had peace, even happiness.
But drow live long, and few other aside from surface elves do, and once more Halrae finds herself alone and wandering....
Racial Traits:
Darkvision/Infravision: Halrae can see in the dark using heat and lingering gamma radiation on the surface of objects and people.
Hearing: As most elves, Halrae has keen hearing.
Sight: When not in darkness and wearing her goggles Halrae has keen eyesight in that she can discern details at great distances.
Magic Resistance: magic has a hard time affecting Halrae, though it is capable of it.
Globe of Darkness: One of the drow's most well-known abilities, Halrae can conjure a globe of darkness around herself and her immediate area. Only she can see through this for the most part, though certain abilities of others might permit their penetrating it.
Faerie Fire: A minor ability, Halrae can wrap a target in harmless colored flames, illuminating them against becoming invisible and making them easier to strike at.
Poison Resistance: Due to literal centuries of being exposed to various poisons Halrae has a resistance to most kinds. But it is merely a resistance, not immunity, and she can still fall sick from it.
Magical Sleep Immunity: As Halrae uses Reverie - a four-hour long period of calm and relaxation instead of sleep – she is immune to magical sleep effects. At the very most they might make her groggy or slow to act.
Personality:
Halrae doesn't trust quickly or freely. Trust is a fatal mistake in drow society and the lesson was one taught at an early age. She's self-confident in most situation (or at least well-versed in faking it), and wiling to throw herself into a battle if she feels the need to. Hidden under that however is a fierce loyalty and dedication to those she feels she can actually trust planted and cultivated by her fellow Chainbreakers in the adventures following their escape.
Abilities:
Warrior-Trained: Halraes wields a halberd with skill.
Polearm Mastery: She can strike with both ends of it in turn, or twice with the bladed end if she wishes to.
Sentinel: Halrae can strike at enemies that are within her reach if they try to attack her allies, if they enter her reach coming for her, or if they move through her reach to get to another location.
Action Surge: When pressed Halrae can push herself beyond the means of normal action, taking a third strike or similar deed.
Weaknes:
Sunlight Blindness: Drow are creatures of the Underdark and thus strong lights, such as sunlight or bright flares, cause pain and blindness. Halrae always wears her dark goggles to protect herself from it.
