Pronounciation Ca-shay
Group Caboodle of Casches
Single Casche
Young Kids
General Info
Casches are built like weasels rather thin and long with thick and velvety fur. Though they have cute faces, Casches also have almost fingers, like a raccoon might have, that are specifically for picking things up. They also have a flap of skin that extends from where their forelimbs attach to their body, to the back, like a sugarglider. They cannot fly, but, as you might guess, they can glide. With their long bodies, excellent gliding takes a lot of practice, and Casches that do not practice sufficiently (you'd be surprised by how many don't want to take the time) will frequently glide headfirst into tall objects (or humanoids/shinies).
Their fur is generally a solid color or lightly patterned, with stripes, or other sorts of shapes. They come in blacks, whites, greys, and browns, or some sort of combination of those colors. Complex appearances will only show up when an individual Casche dyes its fur, which is quite common. As they are a rather animated and aesthetic-loving species, many Casches will enjoy making themselves look nice. Sticking feathers in their fur, creating jewelry to wear, they're quite inventive so they like to innovate. Sometimes a given Casche will change its appearance quite frequently (like, daily if they really like it), so crazy colors are pretty commonly seen. It is often common for a Casche to decorate themselves based on their rank, as it is the most accessible to them, and the most aesthetically pleasing. However, this is not always the case. They have a tight range in size, and size differences are often genetic. A Casche with two large parents will probably also be large, a Casche with two smaller parents will probably be small. They range from a little over a foot long to about two and a half feet. Smaller Casches are generally better at climbing trees and more nimble, while larger ones are often stronger, and can carry heavier objects.
Casches are wildly varied creatures. They are vain creatures, as is evident in their potential for wild appearances. Casches are a strange mix of very social and independent. They will work together when need be, fighting off a larger creature, dying a spot on their backs that they just can't reach with their paws, even dragging large objects for long periods of time. While they cannot speak in any sort of form (mind, verbal, images, none of that) they can make animal-noises. Squeaks, growls, hisses, and the occasional scream all make up the wide vocal range that they have. It's a bit of a mystery if they can understand each other or have any form of language, though seeing two squabbling is quite common.
They are not born into their rank. Groups generally have some loose form of leadership, ranging from maybe a dictator to a council, or anything in between (they're very inconsistent), but this is never determined by rank. Any rank of Casche can have any number of young (which usually ranges from 6-12), be of any size, any appearance, or any temperament. Most are pretty mischievous though.
So what defines the ranks of these crazy critters might you ask?
Each and every Casche has the irresistible urge to hoard something. Ranging from a collection of colors, collection of materials, or even a more complex system then that, a Casche's rank is determined by what exactly it is the young would like to collect. More complex collection requirements are rarer to find in the species, and a Casche parent or even a humanoid candidate will be able to tell a young Cash's rank at a very early age, as the desire to hoard things comes almost immediately when the young can move about on their own. Whether a Casche's stash is hidden in a secret place or out in the middle of your living room, they will collect things until they probably run you out of your home. Good luck trying to convince them to keep things in a convenient place. And while they are generally peaceful creatures (mischievous, but not aggressive), it is a known instinct for Casche to separate their piles to keep them from mixing. Stealing from another Casche's hoard can cause feuds.
Casches chatter and have their own vocal communication. They are pretty intelligent, and will often create specific vocalizations for the dumb humanoids to understand (much like a cat). These vocalizations will vary per bonded pair, and Casches that live together might teach each other these customs as to not confuse the poor humanoid. For example, they might make a sort of high chirp to signify the want of food, or a hiss to signify that the humanoid is doing something that is endangering the Casche's hoard.
They mainly eat insects and berries for the most part. Will eat humanoid food, but don't make it a habit.
Chasing Info
Casche will chase for companionship perhaps more often than they will to actually breed. Preparation for a "chase' begins in advance, and news of the event will spread through various groups of the species, typically through word of mouth or "signs" that they may scratch into trees, the dirt, or people's homes. Predictably, the way for a Casche to woo another is to bring an item. While looser friendship chases are simpler affairs, Casche looking for a life partner may even bring forth an item from their very own hoard. Some Casche will mate for life while others will pick up many partners.
Bonding Info
Bonding a Casche isn't horribly difficult, as they know the uses that bonding a humanoid can have. The best way to do it is impress them. And that varies from Casche to Casche. They can potentially form close relationships with their bonds, but they can also bond just to use their humanoid for their size.
RANKS
(Note: These are meant to be silly, but a more clever version of any name will be appreciated! And if people just don't like them I'm flexible. XD Will do fades eventually)
Complexophile
The rarest of the Casches, Complexofiles are not the most intelligent rank, but every Casche of the rank is intelligent. The hoards of these Casche tend to be slightly smaller because there are more requirements for the objects. Maybe something has to be small AND blue. Maybe it had to have been living, but also need to be green. Maybe the Complexofile will have a hoard that is ONLY flowers and trading cards. Each one is varied, and are usually rather specific.
3SP
Omniphile
There is no rhyme or reason to what Omniphiles collect, not that anyone can understand anyway. This does not mean, however, that they'll bring any given object to their hoard. No, the object must be special, and must belong. At the same time, you might hand them a button, they'd reject it, only to pick up a copy of that exact same button a day later and be overjoyed.
3SP
Artificiaphile
A rank that has come to being as Casche have evolved with the humanoids around them, Artificiaphiles collect inanimate objects exclusively made by humanoids. Perhaps they'll be specific, maybe one only collects jewelry, or another will only collect hats. Whatever the case may be, these tend to be especially fascinated by the colony that they thrive by. They can also be found in the wild.
2SP
Biophile
A rank that exclusively collects things that are alive, were once alive, or part of something alive, Biophiles may collect things varying from leaves, twigs, feathers, to bones. They may collect just things that are generally plants, or generally alive things, but they're usually a tad more specific.
2SP
Sparklophile
Collects of all things shiny. Can be picky about the type of shiny (glossy vs sparkly vs glittery vs sheen) or not. They may also collect things that fit into other categories (jewelry for example) as long as everything is SHINY.
1SP
Sizeophile
Casches that collect things of a specific size. There is a large range here, some might generally collect things that are "smaller than them" or "bigger than them", while others might whip out a stick that they use as a ruler to make sure that it is the distinct size. Casches that collect large things tend to be more social, purely because it makes it easier for them to drag things around.
1SP
Sensophile
Sensophiles will collect items that involve their favorite of one of the five senses, seeing, hearing, tasting, touching, or smelling. Some will be picky within those categories, others are not at all.
1SP
Hueophile
Collect specific colors. While some may have a broader range for colors (something that's red, something that's dark), some will have strict collections of very specific colors (ONLY Seafoam green). Many of the pickier Casches will carry around a small object that is of the color they like, and compare.
