To Thane's absolute delight, the rescued egg began to shake in his arms. "Oh hey, it's hatching!" he exclaimed, turning so that Kalla could watch as well. The pale Boreas bent her head as the egg continued to rock back and forth before a green snout suddenly poked through the shell and into the cool night. Eagerly, the pilot assisted the baby still stuck inside by peeling away the bits of shell and membrane that clung to its snout, quickly widening the hole so that the new arrival could see out properly. With a little more work, the top half of the shell was gone, scattered on the sand at Thane's feet.
Well, he wouldn't exactly call it cute, Thane thought at his examined the hatchling. It looked vaguely dragon-like, but even he could see the muscles rippling under the baby's skin was unlike that of dragons of fairy tales. He got a good view of its teeth as it snapped at the air, and so made sure his fingers were well away from its mouth. "What now?" he asked, wondering if he should keep carrying it or put the hatchling down.
I think we should go see what's nearby, the giant eagle said, training her gaze on the rustling patch of bushes. Thane had been so caught up in welcoming the new baby into the world that he hadn't noticed the sound, but a quick look at the bushes indicated that there was something there. Nodding in agreement, he slid down the quicksand-equipped sandune and approached the bushes, watching them wave slightly from the movement of whatever was hiding in them.
"Sibling of yours?" he murmured, glancing down at the baby Wher to see its reaction to the event.
