Singular: Powlet
Plural: Powlets
Group: A Flock of Powlets
A Whazzit farmer's dream would be to own as many Powlets as humanoidly possible. Theyre basically chickens, with a dash of PIF thrown in! Most of them are average sized, anywhere from 2-3 ft, though a couple of ranks don't fit this mold. They're hardy birds raised for their eggs, of which they have many different variations. Each rank has a different kind of egg they lay, and a signature physical trait that discerns them from the rest. All ranks can be either gender, and their feathers can come in any pattern and color! Only hens lay eggs, but the males are still coveted for keeping the chicks hatching! Their personalities vary per Powlet, from friendly to fiesty to frightened. They're not very intelligent, and they can't mindspeak.
Chases
Powlets are very easy going when it comes to mating. The female- or male!- will cluck/crow when they're in the mood. Once enough suitors arrive, they'll run. Whoever catches them wins!
Bonding
The hen will lay fertilized eggs for a week, anywhere from 7 to 14 eggs in total. After incubating them for a month, they'll hatch into fuzzy little chicks. At 3 weeks old theyre old enough to form bonds. Food is a good motivator, also shiny things or something warm. Or anything moving. They're not picky!
Ranks
Onagadori
The most prized Powlets, these birds are easily recognized by their long tails. Their feathers on their tail never stop growing, and can get upwards to four feet long! This does make them easier targets, unfortunately, which makes them more likely to survive in the care of a bonded. The hens lay any type of egg that the other ranks lay, and what kind changes daily!
3PSP
Araucana
This rank is second rarest, but only because its signature trait is lethal. These birds have tufts of feathers coming from where their ears are. No two Araucana can mate and lay viable eggs, unfortunately, but they can mate with any other rank. Araucana hens lay spicy eggs.
2PSP
Frizzle
Easily distinguished from the rest, these Powlets have fuzzy feathers that almost look like fur. They're prized for this trait, and for the chocolate eggs that the hens lay.
2 PSP
Brahmas
Sick of your Powlets always running off? Say no more! Brahmas are giant- the tallest has been measured at 5 feet- and make them impossible to lose! Well, in theory. Perhaps you could even ride them? Other than their size, they look like your everyday chicken. They lay pickled eggs!
1 PSP
Thuringian
You got a little something under your beak there... oh, its just your beard! These Powlets have feathery beards below their beaks. Yes, even the hens. Speaking off, the hens lay eggs that have fruit flesh inside- though the taste of the fruit varies per hen!
1PSP
Crested
Some argue that Crested look silly, some say regal! All we know is that they have large crests of feathers ontop of their heads. The females lay candy eggs, the specific taste of candy varies per hen.
1PSP
Bantam
Easily the most commonly seen Powlet are the Bantam. These birds are the smallest of Powlets, never reaching 2ft in height, broad chested, and otherwise look just like your everyday Earth chicken! They do have quite the fancy fan tails though. The females' eggs are normal chicken eggs, whether white, brown or spotted.
