They were dying.
The land offered them little, anymore, and the people here were not their friends. Bit, bridle, collar, and chains were all that welcomed those that sought out a life companion, for these were people that saw no deeper meaning in the bond that connected them. Most were not even given the chance to choose their own. These people were masters, not companions. And they were just a beast of burden -- their thoughts and feelings and intelligence meant nothing to anyone. And they were dying.
Some escaped, of course. Some hatchlings managed to hide and slink off when no one was paying attentions. Others were born to wild parents, which allowed freedom, certainly, but it left them all wanting. They missed part of themselves, and not all could survive that. Too many of their hatchlings betweened, and even more of the young adults did, too. It was exhausting, and painful, and hard to cope.
They were dying, and something needed to be done.
She knew hers was out there, somewhere. She had to believe others of her Flight had The One out there, too. And it was time someone did something about it. She didn’t know where to start, or how, or even what her options were. But she was done with this, and she was determined to have a future.
…
It happened both slower and faster than she had expected.
She had flown, and soon, she would have to nest with her eggs. She already knew she wouldn’t be allowing her children to become slaves to the people here, but that meant escaping. Which was easier said than done, surrounded by chains and bridles, by things that shocked and burned to keep them obedient.
Her person was a cruel one, but delighted by the upcoming clutch. And they eagerly shared plans for her children, things she could not, and would not, accept. Something inside her snapped, and so did she. It was a blur of violence and bloodshed, with a few others rallying to her side. Her master died that hazy morning, though they weren’t the only one to do so. But it didn’t matter, because she and those that followed spread their wings, and they fled. Raced towards the chance of freedom, of happiness. She only wished she could have saved more.
…
I can help you, if you permit it. The unicorn was cautious in his approach. Understandable, really, with a newly created nest and newly laid eggs.
The Gold swung her head to eye the Xicara, suspicious, but curious. Unicorns were rare here, hidden in the deepest parts of the forests and mountains, unwilling to be caught and tamed and used, like her kin were. She had not expected to see one in her life, and neither had her companions. But they were curious, and they were interested, and they were desperate.
I can...open a door. To bring Others here, to attend your children. A true bond should make it easy for any of your kind to travel back with them. I cannot make promises of those that don’t find one, but...perhaps there are ways. The dapple stallion shook his head, pawing at the ground. It was a risk, for many reasons, but….
And your price? The mother asked.
I, too, want the chance to go elsewhere. He told her, sincere and honest. We can do this together.
…
It would be a weird couple of weeks for the citizens of the weryd. Strange dreams would haunt them, and even those that did normally sleep would find themselves nodding off to be bothered by such. Dreams of another place, much like the one they lived at now. Images of dragons, in far larger numbers than here, flew in the sky, or traveled upon the land. But unlike the dragons of home, these beasts wore rough bridles on their faces, thick collar around their necks, and many could be seen chained into large stables or tethered to areas they were working at.
There was little happiness there, little warmth or love, and it was clear that the creatures here were nothing but working animals to the people of the Other place. Tired and run down, the place seemed dark, depressing, and hopeless.
It was towards the end of the odd couple of weeks that things got even worse. A quiet humming noise would be rather persistent, starting in dreams but slowly being able to be heard in day to day life. It wasn’t a painful sound, and it was unique to each person, but there was certainly nothing that could be done about it. No way to quiet it, or stop it, or tune it out. It was just there.
And then, everyone just woke up in a new place.
Didn’t matter if you’d been asleep that night or not. Timing seemed off, too, as people came in waves with others, or alone. People would wake to a world of monochrome colors, with a silvery forest edging close to gray sands of a long stretch of clean beach. It would take a little bit of wandering, depending on where people woke up, but they would all be tugged along in some unknown way. Everyone would just sort of know where they needed to go.
It was a huge cavern that everyone would end up at. Grey sand turned to black inside it, soft and warm to the touch. From the very entrance, the dragons would be obvious, the adolescents and adults scattered and lounging in the large area. In the middle was a Gold, her hide shining shockingly in this greyscale world. She was relaxed, but watching the newcomers warily. And understandably so, for xx eggs were tucked into a nest in front of her. Brightly colorful and trembling, they seemed on the verge of hatching.
Tiberius just looked awkward by the entrance, rubbing the back of his neck and feeling very much like this was either his fault or someone would at least blame him. "She says you are all welcome to attend her children and her companions. No violence will be permitted, though. Um. I wouldn’t cross her. The teen jerked his thumb towards the gold, who pulled off an innocent expression very well.” He didn't buy it, and no one else should, either, but Tiberius wasn't that worried. The gold who had shared her name with him, who he was certain was his, was something amazing.
You may touch the eggs, if you wish. She invited. She did not know how these people preferred to approach their dragons, but she would just sort of wing it and figure this out.
Notes:
...This is a colorless bonding. Everything in the world, besides the eggs and Kadith, are in monochrome colors. Dragons will show their ranks upon bonding.
...Bring as many characters as you want, but only one shiny per character, please. Dragons will, of course, bond to you, not your shinies.
...All dragons here, besides Kadith, are bondable.
...You can send preferences at anytime you like. Who you like, who you don’t. It’s not at all required, however, and you will likely only bond to those you talk to and attend.
...Make sure to read the Dragon info, and also realize that IC actions have IC consequences. Make sure to skim everyone’s posts and take into account that your character is not the only one here.
..Touch eggs, wait for them to hatch, talk to the adults, hold a tea party, do nothing...whatever you want to do. There is no script here. I know Pern bondings are very...stand around and watch...but this is neither Pern nor do I really know a damned thing about Pern. Go wild. :)
...Any questions or comments, shoot me a PM.

However, I may post at other times, if the mood strikes or people are responding quickly.
