Chais
Age- 28
Altered Human
Description-
Standing in at just over six feet and 220 lbs, Chais features a full frame and solid stature with virtually no body fat due to his unique diet. He keeps neck-length, bronze/brown, and gently wavy hair that never quite lays the way he'd hope it would. The ears, though usually hidden in hair, have slight points that show to a trained eye the extent of his alterations. The most striking features arent the most noticeable, being mood-ring eyes and a complete lack of pores. The lack of scars is slightly more noticeable, and repeated exposure to Chais displays the reason why. He can simply undo damage, observed often by unexpected explosions and reactions to the melding of his arcana. Sharpened canines are sometimes noticeable during his speech, especially on emphasized 'l' sounds. They hail from his survival under a fae queen of Shadowmoor, a physical manifestation of his diet of leeching raw mana from varying sources. His nails are always bitten to almost bloody due to impulsive biting. Chais smells of ozone and rain due to his hygienic habits of river-washing and cleansing bacteria and detritus from himself with sheets of spellfire.
He tends toward simpler, looser clothing in darker tones. His preferences tend less for fashion statement and alot more toward the utility. More to the point, black hides the blood and the burns. His daily life is a test of endurance and regeneration is a necessity. Precious metals, more specifically silver, hold a soft spot in his heart. Gems of any nature line his coffers and he spends more time than he admits divining where next to explore looking for them.
Equipment-
Chais carries very little with him but generally prefers to have quite the armament at any given time. He tends more toward the type that has everything but never uses it, preferring to travel light and save the stuff until he needs it most. Which is never. Give him a page of stickers and theyll never get used, because hes too afraid hell find something else that theyd go better on. His only required accoutrements are a ring, a vial, and a few orbs of a silvery metal he refuses to go into detail about, clamming up at the question as paranoia sets in. The vial is a gift of the Sengir line, the contents of which restore the body and uses silver dust to replenish itself. His ring is a signet of compacted metal that on focus decompresses into a large shield. A black duster cloaks him and polyester clothing predominates his wardrobe. Lastly, the orbs. A silver mixture with a blue hue he at one point lost everything to procure, they react with the presence of mana to form intuitively whatever their wielder desires. They've been used as nearly impenetrable carrying cases, weapons, armor, and any number of other varied utilities since his last outing to Earth and subsequent run-in with the Vatican.
His main tool is a unique understanding and affinity to mana allowing him, given enough time, to adapt a spell for any given situation. They are all tailored to very specific situations and he can only 'cast' magic on the fly of a few rote spells that are little more than manipulations of the nature of mana itself to effects of terraforming, mining, bolts of fire, elemental replacement, limited telepathy, transmutation, and some power words hes begun discovering after extensive research.
Personality-
The only thing that frightens a being like Chais is death. He strives to prevent it and to some notable extent has managed to. He holds within him the mindset of an immortal laced with the curiosity of a mage and the directness of his Nordic ancestry. He could be read out of an Ann Rice novel and his reader never be the wiser. Chais is not nice but is kind. Not cruel, but is effective. The core parts of his personality reside in 'why not,' while his actions remain in 'because.'
Chais is much more likely in situations of stress to take a step back and consider it remotely than he is to reacting instinctually, leading him to come off as detached and distant even when deeply distressed and involved. He enjoys social experiments and usually understands when hes in one and reacts amusedly without the pretense of playing along. He has no sense of moral past what is directly relevant and distances himself from guilt without issue and does not stress about things he cannot currently affect, preferring to deal with what he can when he can and let it go when he cant.
He holds himself in high regard as an Arcanist more than a Magus or Sorceror. He prefers to understand mana more than pursue power with it, and adores mastery of its quirks to the point that verbal and somatic components become will and intent instead (insert metamagic silent/still spell here). He tends to solve combat situations first as a scout, then as a melee swordsman, leading into fighting as a spellblade. If those steps and escalation are not effective, he does not hesitate to simply teleport out of sight and hail the area with a battery of concentrated spells and spellfire.
Much of the rest of his personality is frugal intent mixed with derpy housecat, being open to simply handing off what others want if they need it more than he wants it.
Weaknesses-
Chais's most notable weakness is his dependence on mana. His body will passively leech it from its surrounding as long as its available, and the more ambient mana or mana he can rip from a target the more powerful he becomes. Subsequently, as a vampiric entity, the longer he goes without a source of mana to feed on the weaker he becomes in both the sense of abilities and health. Given time proportionate to a human starving on water, Chais will begin to wither and sicken. With a humans starving of food, he loses consciousness and hibernates until a source of mana wakens him as with most classic vampires.
He remains indecisive on matters that mean something to him. The best way to stall Chais is to make him second-guess himself. Decisions are easy for him, but things he wants slow him down.
He is generally direct, curious, and trusting enough that they are traits easily taken advantage of.
He tends to avoid escalating situations if possible.
